Width: 6"   Length: 4"

Materials/Techniques: Fabric, Pellon Peltex 72, button; free motion quilting.

Artist's Statement: This is a mailable fabric postcard, which is a photo transfer of a lauhala hat (dried leaves from the Hala tree) made by my mother. The brim of the hat is encircled by a lei made of numerous mini roses my mother crafted from t-leaves, the green leaves from which hula skirts are made. As a young girl, my mother helped supplement their family income by weaving hats for the sugar plantation workers on the island of Hawaii.
