Materials/Techniques: I drew this picture on black cloth and colored it with oil pastel. It has appliquéd leaves and is free motion quilted and thread signed.
Artist Statement: We bought a house that needed renovating from top to bottom, inside and outside. Towards the end of the renovation I started working outside. One of the problems was that there were no plants at all and some trees. I decided not to have lawn but just flowers and a vegetable spot. The problem is bamboo. It is so beautiful and graceful in its growth. As I began to plan and plant, you know, the tall in the back and so on. I wanted to incorporate the neighbors bamboo so I planted an Asian theme in front of it. I have a large bell made from an oxygen tank that my brother made and my husband made a beautiful stand for it. The rocks went in and the bright green moss was planted. You see it is getting really beautiful and then we saw the shoots of the bamboo coming up. We have been fighting them for a few years now. At least once a week we must go on bamboo patrol. It is necessary or they will come in the house. If you miss a time you have to dig the bricks up from the patio, so you see the name is love hate.
Dedication: To Momma and my two friends Barbara and Ele' who are great caregivers.
