Width: 8.5" Length: 11"
Materials/Techniques: I used cotton fabrics and threads for the quilt, and a Pellon like fabric for the silhouette figure.
Artist Statement: I made this quilt for the February QAMC. Since we are all working to help Ami reach the one million dollar goal by December, and to support the research for Alzheimer’s, I chose soccer as my sport to feature. Using a silhouette cut from craft felt, I sewed it to the background of light green fabric. Then I did a heavy stippling to help make the player and the ball come forward. Each of us quilters that are involved with AAQI are using our skills, better known as the plays, to win the game against Alzheimer’s. The breakaway move is when an attacker, each quilter, approaches the goal (Alzheimer’s) undefended; this exciting play pits a sole attacker against the goalkeeper in a one-on-one showdown. It is a very simple design, but quite prominent.
Dedication: To anyone who is going through this disease, the caregivers, all the quilters who are on a mission to raise more money for research to get a cure - and to Ami for forming this group and giving each of us a chance to show creative talent, and know that we are doing our part to help.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $20.25 for the AAQI.
