Designer: Cheri Payne, ABC Sampler Quilt, used with written permission.Materials/Techniques: Homespun plaid, reproduction, and Osnaberg cotton quilt fabrics are "aged" with tea and coffee dyeing; appliqués are double layers, sewn right sides together, and turned, then pick stitched with cotton quilting thread; 3 vintage shell/pearl buttons; cotton floss for hand embroidered details on people and background; red felted wool heart is hand-dyed by me from recaptured thrift store garment and button hole stitched with black wool floss; hand embroidery on border is wool floss; and hand quilted in ditch around appliqués and narrow border.
Artist Statement: I took Cheri Payne's ABC Sampler Quilt class in 2000, and have made several "Mother" blocks for gifts since then. I thought this charming primitive block would be a good fit for the Alzheimer's "Folk Art" Quilt project. I changed the quote (author unknown) since Cheri stitches the name of the person's children in the border.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $80.00 for the AAQI.
