Width: 10.25" Length: 8.75"
Materials/Techniques: Batik cotton fabrics; machine embroidery stitches including couching over satin ribbon; hand embroidered cotton floss over vintage rick rack; tiny corded piping around scallop-edge border; cotton batting; minimal machine quilting in the ditch with invisible thread.
Artist Statement: This 1-1/2" x 3" embroidery on black was made by women in Africa. I bought the stitchery at a quilt show from Ananse Village, a fair trade dealer. This Fort Bragg store told me the grandmothers make these to raise money to care for children who have been impacted by the HIV/AIDS crisis. N. Nkosi of Ingvavuma, Zululand, South Africa handstitched this charming village scene.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $55.00 for the AAQI.
