Materials/Techniques: I used cotton fabrics and thread. The tree branches and leaves were fused and machine quilted, with some detail added with permanent marker. The bluebird was appliquéd, then hand embroidered with cotton embroidery floss.
Artist Statement: This is second in a series of songbirds in trees, one for each season. This bluebird, perched in a birch or aspen tree, is announcing the first day of summer.
Dedication: To my mother, who loved birds of all types, and passed her love to me in many ways.
