Sandra Butters
Indianapolis, IN USA
Width: 8" Length: 10"
Materials/Techniques: Cotton and cotton blend fabrics, Pellon, flannel batting, part of a real Pawpaw leaf, a couple of real maple leaves, some small artificial leaves and flowers and a box for extra interest, netting, packing tape and fabric glue. Cotton /poly and invisible thread, appliquéd and quilted by machine and I used paint pens to outline the edges of the leaves
Artist Statement: While raking and bagging leaves one day my husband brought some in for me to see the beautiful fall colors, so I decided to try an experiment and see if I could figure out how to use them in a quilt. I didn't want just the shape or color but wanted to use the actual leaves. I made three quilts using the method that I thought might work.
