Width: 8.5" Length: 10.75"
Materials/Techniques: Whole cloth cotton background, hand painted figures with paint pens appliquéd to the background. The edging is from a very thin cotton scarf, I used cotton flannel sheeting inside, then outlined and free motion quilted with invisible thread and cotton thread.
Artist Statement: In this tribal picture I fused the figures then cut them out and machine appliqued them to the background fabric. Since I wanted the figures facing each other I had to use the reverse side of the man and little woman. Luckily the outline showed thru and I could use my paint pens to color them. The background fabric is actually a print of a large pale flower; I thought this section looked like a volcano in the background. When I was making this I pretended that this was the first time he took anyone to meet Mom. What story will it inspire in you? This is my second tribal quilt made from a very large red dress with these figures all along the bottom edge, all going in the same direction.
