Mary Mickmott, New Stitches magazine #46, used with written permission.
Materials/Techniques: This little rooster was cross stitched on 18 count cross stitch fabric using DMC embroidery floss and using cotton batting and backing. After finding him in my cross stitch tub, I decided to make him into a mini quilt. The original rooster pattern was done in black-work, but I wanted to do him in color. So after much trial and error, which is a better way of saying, ripping and redoing, I tried to come as close as possible to the rooster that had been done the month before in their magazine (Issue #45). I added the look of chicken wire in front of him, using DMC Flower thread. Using a piece of fabric that has small flowers on it I tried to make it look like he was inside the cage. I did some free motion machine stitching around the little flowers, tied the corners of the chicken wire with DMC pearl cotton and having the knots showing on the backside of the quilt.
Artist Statement: I made this quilt to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research and to show my support for the AAQI.

This quilt earned $80.00 for the AAQI.
