Width: 8.5" Length: 11.25"
Materials/Techniques: I drew the leaf by looking at the plant I have. It is on white PFD cloth. I used oil pastel and NeoColor II crayons and free motion quilting. It is thread signed.
Artist Statement: I love art history and do like Matisse a lot. He used the large shape of the philodendron leaf many times. Later in his life he was doing many cutouts and repeated that leaf motif. I have many plants but did not have a philodendron. I asked my mother about where I would get one and the next week she had a start from her garden club. Now my mother is gone but the whole family has a plant and knows the story about “when momma met Matisse.”
