Materials/Techniques: This quilt is made of 100% cotton fabrics from a set of coordinates. The batting is 100% polyester, chosen because of the loft which gives added dimension to the elephants. I hand-stitched several kinds of glass beads on the elephants' costumes and added hand-embroidered accents using pearl cotton and metallic and rayon flosses, then hand quilted everything. The backing is two pieces of coordinating fabrics sewn together. As always with my things, all fabrics were pre-washed before sewing.
Artist Statement: I don't remember where I got the coordinating fabrics that I used in this quilt; they were samples given to me. I wasn't thrilled with the colors, and put them away for a while. Then, when I started thinking about making a little quilt for you, I came across this fabric and thought it might work out quite well. The more I worked on it, the better I liked it, and I had so much fun adding all the embellishments!! I hope the purchaser will enjoy it also.
Dedication: To Yuliya, one of my mother's last caregivers, who treated her with such love and tenderness and who cried with me when Momma died; and to caregivers everywhere. (Elephants, particularly the females, take care of each other in their herds, shielding the little ones, helping those giving birth, and guarding against danger.)
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
