Width: 11.5" Length: 8.25"
Designer: Carol Doak, 50 Little Paper-Pieced Blocks, used with written permission.Materials/Techniques: Multiple orange fabrics and black 100% cotton fabrics and batting. Orange beads applied by hand, then machine pieced and quilted. Fast finish triangles in all 4 corners for hanging in any orientation and signed along the lower border using black thread.
Artist Statement: Took the Quilt-A-Month challenge of using orange and black with the maple-leaf block created by Carol Doak. I further reduced her 3" block so I could use more of them and create this interesting arrangement using 8 blocks along with side-setting triangles in black. Applied an orange batik border and black binding, then finished it with center beadwork. I enjoyed using different orange fabrics for the leaf pattern, but in this arrangement they created a whole new look. When our daughter, Anna, saw the warm glow of the oranges shooting in all directions, they reminded her of flames, thus she named it "I C Fire".
