Designer: Original designMaterials/Techniques: Cotton batiks are paper pieced, then Angelina was fused on and beads hand sewn all over the tree.
Artist Statement: The July Quilt A Month challenges were Christmas, colors on opposite sides of the color wheel & Angelina. The obvious quilt would have been a red & green tree. I've never been a person who conforms so it felt much more comfortable for me to make a purple and yellow tree. I love the softening effect the purple Angelina has on the tree. My husband suggested long strings of beads like a garland but it just wouldn't work. Instead I sewed individual beads all over the tree. Our Christmas trees are scrawny 13' ones similar to the one I designed and we wire all the ornaments onto the trunk of the tree. I love the weird look and look forward to it each year. I hope others are attracted to the unique and unusual as well.
