Artist Statement: My father was born and raised in North Georgia, the land of lush greens, red dirt, ripe peaches, and sultry summers. On my few visits to the place of his birth, I was always amazed by the richness of the land. In and around Chickamauga, were hardwood forests being challenged by the ever-growing kudzu vines. Okra grew high in everyone's garden. Up the road, the neighbors sold heirloom tomatoes and juicy ripe peaches. When I started working on this piece, I noticed that I was pulling the colors from this beautiful part of the world. My dad must have been in the room. He passed too soon.
