Sunnyside, WA USA
Width: 9" Length: 9"
Materials/Techniques: Cottons, polyester batting. Machine pieced and quilted. I altered the traditional FS pattern so that I could construct it in 17 foundation/paper pieced units—this means no dreaded Y seams.
Artist Statement: Back when I was young and foolish, I’d use the word “never” without thought. I said then that I’d never make a Feathered Star quilt block; I didn’t even think they were very pretty. Then I made one, just to say that I had. I found out that [a] they’re fun to make; and [b] a small (14”) Feathered Star quilt carries a big impact as a gift. I’ve made several.
Dedication: At the risk of getting tiresome, I dedicate yet another quilt to my husband, Leon Stewart (Stu). He may be the big reason my attitude toward the Feathered Star design has changed. He watched me make the first one (a mix of tans, browns, and oranges) and said, “I want that one.” It’s hung near the computer ever since.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $64.67 for the AAQI.
