Artist Statement: I started this little quilt some time ago, worked hard on getting the points just right, but didn't have a purpose for it, so let it sit in the UFO pile. Recently I became aware of the AAQI program and suddenly there was reason to finish it. Although the fabrics are more modern, the pattern reminds me of the old-fashioned quilts in the Minnesota farmhouse where I grew up. It was there I first became acquainted with the sadness of what was known then as senile dementia. I watched my grandfather fade away from us. He was calmed only by music, which meant hours at the piano. It did not matter the skill level of the pianist, so at eight and nine years old, I spent many hours playing for him. It is my honor to dedicate this little quilt to his memory.
