Austin, TX USAWidth:
Based on Pat Morris’s adaptation of a traditional design. Used with written permission.Materials/Techniques:
100% cotton; machine pieced, hand quilted.Artist's Statement:
I first saw Betty Donahue’s version of this design on Art for Alzheimer’s. It spoke to me about the losses from Alzheimer’s disease. The gradual but unrelenting disintegration of the personality is heartbreaking. Betty had based her quilt on one done by Pat Morris. I have written permission from both of these ladies.
In honor of my maternal grandmother, who was probably developing the disease when she died of cancer at the age of 80. Watching my mother disintegrate makes me wonder which is worse…to die young, or to lose one’s self piece by piece.
