Annie Bernstein
Chevy Chase, MD USA
Width: 8.5" Length: 9.75"
Designer: The Prairie Schooler, pattern("The Tortoise and the Hare," book 162); used with written permission.Materials/Techniques: Cross-stitch with DMC floss on 32 count hand-dyed linen, quilting cottons used for sashing and backing and stitch-in-the-ditch quilting.
Artist Statement: I've always loved this fable, but I do sympathize with the hare. "Seize the day" and "Don't put off until tomorrow...” He understood that life is short. Unfortunately, he didn't quite follow through and the tortoise got the best of him, but just wait for the re-match! Anyway, that's why I stitched in the opposing adages.
