Width: 12"   Length: 9"

Materials/Techniques: Fun foam and silk flower blossoms, buttons and beads; machine quilted.

Artist's Statement: Shortly after Valentine’s Day, I stopped by a local market at lunch time. One glorious fuchsia-colored bunch of roses caught my eye and somehow found their way into my shopping cart. Back at work, the roses lasted a full week. It was wonderful to observe their effect on those who passed by my desk. Did the flowers alter the workload? Of course not. But did they make people smile? YES!

Dedication: For my mom, who appreciated even the most tattered dandelion blossoms. The last picture taken of her was captured by one of her nursing home staffers during a “field trip” to the local botanic garden. Mom, wearing her winter coat with her hair mussed by the chilly Michigan wind, was clutching an orchid and beaming with pure delight. The power of flowers? Never underestimate it!
