Artist Statement: Fern Inez Shroll Griscom was the third child born to Edward and Zella Dyess Shroll in southwest Louisiana. She was reared in DeQuincy, LA and after high school graduation, went to work at the Chennault Air Base in Lake Charles, LA. The Air Base was where she would meet her future husband, Minor Fox Griscom. Griscom was a sergeant in the United States Air Corps, and he and Fern were married in 1945. The newlyweds returned to Griscom's home state of New Jersey where he and Fern reared their two sons, William and Minor, Jr. Fern was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in her later years and was lovingly cared for by her family, including William's wife, Mary Ann Griscom, who now feels the effects of Alzheimer's herself. Fern leaves the legacy of a Godly and precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to all of her family. I'll see you in heaven, Aunt Fern.
