Artist Statement: My stepmother Carrie and my dad lived in Oklahoma. For many years we would visit them and attend my father's family reunion in Kansas. During one of those trips a sunflower farm was in full bloom as far as you could see. We stopped and took many pictures of the gorgeous blooms and one of those pictures became the inspiration for this design. Carrie loved flowers and taking care of her gardens and I could think of no better flower to honor her than with the Kansas state flower, the sunflower. It reminds me of those wonderful trips to the Kansas family reunions. We miss her humor and kindness and our visits to her and my dad's home in Oklahoma and, of course, our trips to the family reunions and those gorgeous sunflower farms in Oxford, Kansas where my dad was raised.
Dedication: To my stepmother, Carrie, who lost her battle with this dreadful disease in 2010.
