Diane Petersmarck and Joan
Evanston, IL USA
Width: 8.75" Length: 11.5"
Designer: Original design with a little help from Joan who has since passed away.Materials/Techniques: The background is colored with Caran d'Arche crayons, the flowers are fused appliqué. The grass, leaves and sky are free motion quilted, and the flowers are sewn down. I used Perfect Pearls and Stickles glitter to highlight the flowers.
Artist Statement: I work as a volunteer with the Activities Staff at a local nursing home. One day I brought in the plain white backgrounds to which I had fused stems. I also brought a variety of fused flowers (using Steam-A-Seam so they'd stay put without ironing). I gave each of four ladies a background and then started handing out flowers one at a time, telling them to put them wherever they wanted to. For some it was fun, others needed lots of help. This is Joan's. The sideways tulip charmed me.
