255 - Underlying Current/Practice Piece

Width: 11"   Length: 12"

Materials/Techniques: 100% cotton fabrics; direct printing, hand applique machine piecing, machine quilting.

Artist's Statement: This quilt was made as I made my piece (Underlying Currents) for the traveling Alzheimer's exhibit, "Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece by Piece." Prior to settling on the exact techniques I would use on the "real" quilt, I auditioned them on this piece. It let me work out such things as the size of the font to print the story of my mothers Alzheimer's on the background blocks, thread choices, quilting motifs and strategies for the border, house, and background blocks. This is not a perfect quilt; it's just a little piece of quilt history.

Dedication: For my mother, who recognizes me most of the time, but sometimes thinks I'm somebody else. And, for all the quilters who have been touched by the AAQI and are now using their creative talents to make a difference one quilt at a time. Bless you all!

This quilt is displayed with Fast Finish Triangles.

This quilt earned $150.00 for Alzheimer's research.
